This is my bio from my professional blog:
If admitting that I met my loving husband through Facebook isn’t proof that I love social media, I don’t know what is! But more on that later….
Growing up, I loved to network. I loved chatting with people of all ages, and even kept in touch with other kids I met on vacation – using our parent’s email addresses of course. Admittedly, I was also a bit of a nerd. Christmas and birthday gifts were typically merged for an Apple computer, or a digital video camera (thanks, Mum & Dad), so I could make fancy birthday movies for my closest friends.
That passion took me to Los Angeles where I studied film under some of the best, and made movies on the backlots of Universal Studios, all before working for a leading production company in Calgary for a year. I then graduated with a BFA from Ryerson University’s Film Studies program, and focused heavily on Documentarily Filmmaking and Cinematography.
Fast forward a few years, and I’m still the same networking nerd. Social networks have made it a lot easier for me to be able to stay in touch and up to date with everyone, and the rest of my time I’m working as a professional photographer. Well, that is until I decided to start this business we now know as Bot. I’ve always had a knack (that might be a stretch, I’ve always had an obsession) for branding and social media, but never realized it would lead me to start my dream business.
I unknowingly have built a pretty good personal brand for myself. With almost 2, 000Facebook friends, 1000+ instagram followers, 850 Facebook Fans, and 450 Twitterfollowers, people often came to me with questions. “How do I make a Facebook page for my new brand?” “What app do you use to get the white border in instagram?” “Why do my pictures look fuzzy when I upload them to Facebook?”
I started a Photography/Lifestyle blog. I contributed to lululemon athletica’s international blog (See here, here and here). I ran Ryerson’s first ever internal social network, as well as the social media for a film festival and even turned a local run campaign into a global one (check out #irunbhill). And then I started Bot.
Currently, I’m finishing up two post-grad certificates, one in Social Media Marketing at George Brown College, and another in Public Relations at the University of Toronto. My Core Values are completely in line with my company (Community, Creativity, Connection, Passion, Gratitude). And I’ve never been so excited to call this my ‘job.’
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my personal social networks with any questions, concerns and virtual high fives.
Kindly,
Nicole
